Sherman announces nominations to U.S. military academies

U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) recently announced the candidates he has nominated for admission to the Air Force and Navy military academies and West Point. Each year, members of Congress may nominate 10 people from a pool of applicants that reside in their district for each academy’s one vacancy.

The nomination process was complicated this year because of redistricting. Sherman formerly represented the southwest San Fernando Valley as well as Malibu and Conejo Valley; his new district is an exclusively Valley district. To resolve any possible inequities, Sherman appointed candidates from both his old and new district. Candidates from the Las Virgenes-Conejo Valley region include:

Calabasas: Jonathan Liang (Navy); John Lee (West Point); John Tate (West Point); John Liang (West Point).

Newbury Park: John Nelson (Air Force).

Thousand Oaks: Benjamin Morsa (Air Force); Virginia Taylor (Air Force); Radheka Yenamandra (Air Force); Rebecca Grinstead (Navy); Peter Zink (Navy); Michael Ballman (West Point).

Westlake Village: David Nary (Navy).
