Lee will keep our quality of life Lee will keep our quality of life I am encouraging you to reelect Janice Lee for Calabasas City Council. Lee is currently finishing her first council term, a term in which she demonstrated great passion, visionary leadership, unprecedented candor, hard work, strong ethics, an unparalleled intellect for distilling complex issues into manageable facts, and then taking action or casting votes bases on those facts. Lee has been that dedicated voice, speaking on your behalf for the environment, quality of life, public safety, and most importantly—fighting a tireless battle against the forces at Washington Mutual, who won the dreaded Ahmanson Ranch project. When it comes time to vote, Lee consistently lays out the facts and then votes accordingly. Her votes are always right on target. During the past four years, Lee has been a key driver for many important city issues such as fighting Ahmanson Ranch, promoting the dark skies ordinance, fighting sign proliferation, supporting the Albertson’s project, supporting education through the formation of the education commission, enhancing the beauty of the city with several past and present street beautification projects and by opposing projects that are inconsistent with various scenic corridor codes. Most important is to remember the ideal created when all of these initiatives are joined together. Lee represents that ideal in which the entire city works together so that the environment is protected, home values continue to rise, crime continues to fall, local businesses flourish and the success of our children remains the ultimate goal. In closing, consider this: When it comes time to vote in the upcoming city council election, ask yourself what Lee has asked all of us repeatedly, "What do you want this city to look like in 50 or even 100 years?" I suggest that the answer begins with the proven, dedicated leadership and talent embodied in Janice Lee. Lee VanHouten Planning Commissioner, City of Calabasas |
