Groveman, Sibilia best for Calabasas

Groveman, Sibilia best for Calabasas

We are longtime community and homeowner activists in Calabasas. After carefully evaluating the candidates for Calabasas City Council, we are endorsing Barry Groveman and Robert Sibilia for the two open seats on the March 4 ballot.

Groveman possesses extraordinary qualifications. An environmental lawyer with 25 years experience, he headed L. A. County’s nationally acclaimed Toxic Waste Strike Force, putting big polluters behind bars. He co-authored Proposition 65, California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act.

He has the experience, the legal skills and the motivation needed to take on the big challenges our city faces, including the fight against Ahmanson Ranch and other proposed overdevelopments. We are impressed with his creative, specific ideas for reducing traffic congestion in our community. The L. A. League of Conservation Voters and the Calabasas Park Homeowners Association (CPHA) have endorsed Groveman.

A former Calabasas mayor and councilmember and current Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Robert Sibilia is well qualified to serve all of Calabasas’ communities on the city council. As a homeowner activist, he was a leader in the successful citizens’ drive to defeat the high-density Kilroy project (with its proposed 3,000-seat gargantuan movie complex), which had unwisely been approved by the old city council.

This victory paved the way for the lower-density, higher-quality Commons at Calabasas. While in office, Sibilia provided needed recreation programs for our youth and adults. An experienced consumer attorney, he was a positive force on the council.

Divisive personal attacks and petty bickering have plagued the current city council. It’s time for a change.

Barry Groveman and Robert Sibilia will bring civility, responsive representation and mature, positive leadership to the council.
