Conejo Jewish Academy to host medical ethics lecture The Conejo Jewish Academy will host a lecture, "Jewish Bio-Medical Ethics—Ancient Answers to Some Very Modern Questions" at 8 p.m. next Mon., Feb. 24 at their facility, 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. With medical miracles of the last century providing unprecedented opportunities to intervene in fundamental biological processes, science has also generated a nightmare of "new" moral dilemmas. The lecture will view modern day bio-medical ethics through the lens of Judaic beliefs that have endured for centuries. The guest speaker for the lecture is Velvi Greene, a former Fulbright scholar and pioneer in Exobiology who spent many years working for NASA, searching for life on Mars. He is currently the Carlin Professor Emeritus of Public Health and Epidemiology at Ben Gurion University’s Medical School in Beersheba, Israel. Prior to the lecture, the Conejo Jewish Academy will host a memorial service for the astronauts of the Columbia Space Shuttle. Greene will deliver a brief talk about the "family of NASA" and how a tragic event such as Columbia’s loss affects the morale and confidence of the NASA staff. Advance paid reservations are $10 ($12 at the door) and may be made by calling (818) 991-0991 or at the Website at www.jewishacademy.com. |
