Marine Corps Capt. Brian H. Kane, a 1989 graduate of Oak Park High School, recently made a port visit in East Timor while on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 11th MEU, based in Camp Pendleton.

About 500 Marines and sailors from the 11th MEU (and the USS Belleau Wood Amphibious Ready Group) participated in the largest humanitarian assistance project conducted in East Timor in the last two years.

Volunteers set up medical and dental clinics where they treated the local citizens and worked on schools and other buildings on East Timor and villages on neighboring Atauro Island.

Navy Reserve Lt. Cmdr. Brian A. Curtice, son of Hella and Keith Curtice of Westlake Village, recently reported for duty with Naval Reserve Commander in Chief U.S. Naval Forces Europe Joint Task Force Contingency Unit, Detachment 0513, Great Lakes, Ill.

Curtice is a 1976 graduate of Agoura High School. He joined the Navy Reserve in June 1977and is a 1987 graduate of UCLA where he earned a bachelor’s degree.
