Don’t look for objectivity on the Internet Don’t look for objectivity on the Internet Got Internet? Point your computer at a search engine; www.google.com will do. Then ask it to search for the phrase "demonstrating genuine leadership." You’ll be rewarded with about 25 hits, all recent letters to the editors of newspapers around the U.S. and all starting: "When it comes to the economy, President Bush is demonstrating genuine leadership. The growth package he has proposed takes us in the right direction by accelerating the . . ." And all, apparently, from different people. Of course, the 25 letters located only include those newspapers that actually put such things where the Internet can find them. There may be many more that only old-fashioned page-turning will find. Remarkable that the U.S. has such a single-minded view, isn’t it? A cynic might say there is an orchestrated propaganda campaign going on. One wonders where these "opinions" emanate from. Are they coming from some Nixonesque government office? Is there a Pulitzer-wanting journalist out there who can do some digging and find out the truth? Martin Atkinson-Barr Calabasas |
