Israel’s welfare is subject Seven reform and conservative synagogues in the greater West Valley are participating in the third annual West Valley Winter Kallah on five consecutive Mondays. It began Jan. 27 and continues through Feb. 24 at Temple Aliyah, 6025 Valley Circle Blvd., Woodland Hills. Each session will begin at 7:30 p.m. with an optional Ma’ariv service, followed by the program from 7:45 to 9:45 p.m. Presenters include Rabbi Gershon Johnson of Temple Beth Haverim (Conservative), Agoura Hills; Rabbi Paul J. Kipnes of Congregation Or Ami (Reform), Calabasas; and Rabbi Yakov Vann of the Calabasas Shul (Orthodox). The topic of the series is "Israel: In Our Hearts and In Our Minds." The first four sessions will be devoted to the study of the current challenges Israel faces. Each session will begin with an hour’s study of Jewish principles and teachings as they set up the background for the issue of the night. This will be followed by point/counterpoint presentations by two rabbis on the contemporary application of these principles during the second hour. Cost per individual lecture is $10.
