More land goes into open space

City officials increased the open space in Agoura Hills with the recent acquisition of 39 acres south of Agoura Road and west of Reyes Adobe Road.

Donated by Bernard and Janet Tohl, the property is worth an estimated $1.28 million. The property will be managed by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, officials said.

Agoura Hills eventually hopes to protect 1,600 acres of open space, more than a third of the entire city.

In Calabasas, more than 2,200 acres of open space is owned by the city and other public agencies such as the Conservancy and Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.

According to real estate figures, one of every three acres in Conejo Valley/Las Virgenes is now protected open space.
