A ‘sense of community’ shouldn’t have barriers I found Sharon Robinson’s letter castigating Heschel West for its use of the word "community" to be very telling. Yes, the school’s opponents are not very inclusive in their vision of community. When people narrowly define their community, they make it easy to equate the "community’s interest" with their own self-interests. Heschel West and its supporters have a broader, more inclusive vision of community and of the community’s best interests. That is why they are working hard to build an institution that will contribute to the community for years to come. This is something for which they should be complimented, not attacked.
