St. Bonnie Seraphs ready for Westlake St. Bonnie Seraphs ready for Westlake When St. Bonaventure defeated Moorpark, 46-40, in a semifinal playoff matchup last Saturday night at Moorpark, it set up the possibility that the Seraphs could win a fourth straight California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championship. St. Bonaventure won three straight playing in Division XI and this year they seek No. 4, having moved up to Division IV. They square off against Westlake in the title game tomorrow night at Moorpark High School at 7:30 p.m. After the win over Moorpark, St. Bonaventure head coach Jon Mack said about Jim Benkert and the Westlake football team, the title-game opponent, "A class coach, great football program, storied program in the history of Ventura County. It’s going to be a great final." St. Bonaventure star running back/wide receiver Whitney Lewis said, "They’ve got a solid running game, they’ve got a solid passing game. We’ve just got to come out next week and be ready to play. We can’t look past Westlake." Brian Stevens is the St. Bonaventure quarterback. "They’re going to be tough," he said of Westlake. "They gave these guys (Moorpark) a run for their money, so we’re going to have to buckle up and go at it again." About the possibility of winning a fourth straight CIF title, Tony Castaldi, a standout linebacker said, "It’s very important. I think about that all night and all day. Just thinking about that ring and beating Westlake." Castaldi added, "I think Moorpark should have beat them (Westlake), but you know what? Things go ways they’re supposed to." |
