VICA honors Calabasas attorney

The Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA) recently honored Calabasas attorney Robert L. Scott as the 2002 recipient of the "Harmon Ballin Award for Community Service" in recognition of his lifelong commitment to the San Fernando Valley and his involvement with more than 40 charitable, civic and business organizations.

Scott is the director of the CivicCenter Group, a civic support and public policy enterprise providing planning, research, information and consulting services, primarily to nonprofit organizations.

As an appointee of ex-L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan, Scott served as commissioner and past president of the L.A. City Planning Commission. In 1993 he chaired the L.A. City Task Force for Permit Streamlining, bringing business and community leaders to a consensus, reducing bureaucracy and ultimately speeding up the city permit process, according to VICA.

Since 1980, Scott has been principal attorney of Scott and Associates. He has served as Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court, and in addition to the California and Federal Bars, is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

In 1999, Scott received the San Fernando Valley Bar’s highest honor, the Stanley Lintz Award "for service to the community and to the legal profession."

Scott has also received commendations from the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the governor of California, California State Senate and Assembly, L.A. County Board of Supervisors, the mayor and city council of Los Angeles and others.

He was honored at VICA’s 53rd annual meeting and luncheon on Dec. 10 at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City Hotel.
