Red Cross urges year-end gifts

Year-end charitable giving to the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles can benefit both those who make the donations and members of the community who receive the organization’s services throughout the year.

"Two things people can do at this point in the year to reduce their taxes are to make a charitable contribution or gift annuity," said John S. Moawad, financial development officer. "This purchase may provide the donor with a charitable deduction for 2002 and will help assure Red Cross vital services for local area communities during the coming year."

The American Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on the generosity of the American public.

The Red Cross responds to disasters by opening shelters, preparing and serving meals and snacks and mobilizing trained disaster relief workers to provide these and other services without delay.

Red Cross also provides affected families with vouchers for food, clothing, prescription medications and other disaster caused needs.
