Local softball team Millennium excels So Cal Millennium, a 12-and-Under Girls Fastpitch Travel Softball team from Thousand Oaks, was the runnerup at the USSSA National World Series in Ft. Collins, Colo. The first-year team compiled seven consecutive victories to win the Winner’s Bracket over 21 other competing teams, before succumbing to the eventual winner, The Blue Buckaroos of Ft. Collins. The team outscored their opponents 50-21. Millennium was honored by having the Offensive Player of the Tournament, Marla Mathews of Thousand Oaks, who had a .536 batting average with one home run, one triple and two doubles. Keilani Jennings of Newbury Park was selected the Tournament’s Defensive Player by successfully converting over 40 chances at her second-base position. Jenny Liepman and Julia Rice, both of Oak Park, pitched a combined 68 1/3 innings including a no-hitter. Liepman had 15 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings, sporting a 0.19 ERA, while Rice had 42 strikeouts in 42 innings for a 0.12 ERA. All four of these players were selected to the All Tournament Team. |
