Idle your time away

Los Angeles Pierce College Extension is offering a day trip to visit the mountain community of Idyllwild, high above the Coachella Valley and Palm Springs in the San Jacinto Mountains.

Guests can observe birds and wildlife, learn about the origins of the San Jacinto Mountains, or trek through the pine and oak forests on a half-mile nature walk with a park naturalist.

After a picnic lunch (included in the cost), guests have the afternoon free to visit the quaint shops in town or the unique collection of logging, railroad and mining equipment.

The tour is offered from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat., Sept. 28, departing from the college at 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills. The registration fee is $10 plus a tour fee of $59.
