Local students shine academically nationwide
Alissa D. Polan of Westlake Village, a 2001 graduate of Agoura High School, was named to the Dean’s List for the spring academic semester in the School of Arts and Humanities at Sonoma State University, Sonoma.
Lindsey Golde of Calabasas and Joe Jackson of Oak Park were named to the honor roll for the spring semester at the University of San Diego, an independent Catholic institution of higher learning in San Diego. Golde will be junior this fall; Jackson, a sophomore.
Elliott Matthew Hirsch of Westlake Village, the son of Robin and Elisa Hirsch, has been awarded the Curt P. Richter Award in Behavioral Biology Research for outstanding achievement in the David S. Olton Behavioral Biology Program at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. Hirsch, who attended Agoura High School, majored in natural sciences/behavioral biology and graduated with general honors last May.
Alexis H. Gilbard, daughter of Steven I. Gilbard and Laura N. Gilbard of Agoura, recently began her studies at Colgate University in New York State.
The following students participated in this summer’s Boston University Tanglewood Institute, a program of musical study and performance. They were among 300 students selected from auditions across the country and abroad to work with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston University faculty and visiting artists. While in residence at Tanglewood, these young musicians were involved in rehearsals, practices, master classes and concerts.
Agoura Hills: John Bartnicki, son of John and Dana Bartnicki. A junior at Calabasas High School, he has studied trumpet for five years.
Calabasas: Avi Bialo, son of Ari and Flora Bialo. A junior at Calabasas High School, he has studied trumpet for eight years.
Thousand Oaks: David Feldman, son of Michael and June Feldman. A freshman at Thousand Oaks High School, he has studied French horn for six years.
Thousand Oaks: Andrew Star, son of Garry Star. A sophomore at Thousand Oaks High School, he has studied clarinet for five years.
Westlake Village: Michael Scanza, son of Lorie Robinson. A senior at Westlake High School, he has studied trumpet for seven years.
