Making a difference One of the nice things about working at a newspaper is that you hear about good people who make the world a better place. It compensates a little for dealing with the bad types, the people who do bad things. We’re forced to write too many stories about the dregs of humanity and not enough about good people. It’s the nature of our business. In the past two weeks, we’ve learned about two local people who made good things happen. One is a man, the other a boy. We’re sad to say that both of them are gone. Larry Greene (see page 2) lived in Old Agoura and was a cameraman for Channel 2, KCBS-TV. He was killed in an accidental helicopter crash last week while on assignment in the Middle East. We’ve learned from several readers that Greene was a compassionate person who gave much of his time to AYSO, 4-H and other worthy organizations. He must have been a likable person because the people who called mentioned how much they liked him. As a volunteer, he set a good example for all of us. Greene was making a difference in our world. Bo Wagner (see page 37) of Oak Park died last spring. Bo was just a child, and although he was new to his neighborhood, he quickly made friends with other kids and their families. Bo was so warmly appreciated by his playmates and neighbors that the kids on his cul-de-sac organized their own carnival on Labor Day to raise money in his name for a worthy cause. Even as a child, Bo Wagner was making a difference in our world. Larry Greene and Bo Wagner lived in different but neighboring communities. One was a man, the other a child. They both made our world a better place. Editorials RSS feed |
