CHS fire leads to $500,000 damage

A small fire that started in a maintenance room at Calabasas High School around 7 a.m. Wed., Aug. 28 caused an estimated $500,000 in damages.

The fire was contained to a small office and supply room in the Practical Arts Building. No classrooms were damaged by the fire, but there was smoke damage in several rooms, including two computer labs and the school cafeteria.

Students arriving for classes were directed to playfields where they remained for about an hour until L.A. County Fire Department personnel deemed it safe for regular school operations to resume.

The cause of the fire was under investigation but was believed to be accidental.
