Acorn Festival to celebrate autumnal equinox

The second annual Acorn Festival will be presented from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., Sept. 28 at Malibu Creek State Park, 1925 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas.
A celebration of the autumnal equinox, the festival will feature arts, crafts for children, Native American dancers, live bluegrass music and other entertainment. In addition, there will be a native wildlife exhibit by the Wildlife Waystation and a show by the Nature of Wildworks.
A variety of creative gift wares will be available for purchase. Also available will be booths highlighting the natural and cultural history of Malibu Creek State Park, information on the environment, nature and parklands.
Admission is free to the festival. Parking is $1 seniors, $2 others. Sponsored by the Malibu Creek Docents, the event is outdoors so attendees are encouraged to dress appropriate to the chaparral, oak woodlands and sunny meadows setting of the park—wear sunscreen, a hat and carry water.
To reach the park from the 101 Freeway, exit at the Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon Road off-ramp and travel four miles south.
The park entrance is just south of the road’s junction with Mulholland Highway.
