Teachers to learn geometry

A Geometry Institute for Elementary Teachers will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 1 and Aug. 5 to 9 at California Lutheran University (CLU), 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks.

This institute for teachers of kindergarten through eighth-grade students will provide intensive work in geometry.

The new California Mathematics Standards and Framework requires instruction in aspects of geometry at all levels of elementary school, and the institute will support teachers’ implementation of the content in their classrooms.

The six summer institute days will be followed by four Saturday sessions during the school year and 40 hours of school site work. Participating teachers receive an honorarium of $1,000 paid in two installments across the 2002-2003 academic year, and CLU will offer continuing education units.
