Salvation Army to host open house on Saturday

The Salvation Army’s Camp Mt. Crags and Camp Gilmore will host an Open House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat., May 11 in Calabasas.

To reach the camps, travel Las Virgenes Road/Malibu Canyon Road about five miles south from the 101 Freeway to Tapia Park and follow signs to the camps after entering the park.

On a 520-acre secluded site, the camps are nestled among the oaks and along Malibu Creek. During the summer, the Salvation Army operates a summer camp for children ages 7 to 18. After summer, the site is available for retreats, meetings, outdoor education and ropes course rental.

The day begins with a 5K Trail Adventure Run and Pancake Breakfast at 9 a.m. Additional activities include a craft fair, silent auction, rock climbing wall, barbecue, carnival games, prizes and crafts for kids. Admission is free. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Salvation Army’s summer camp programs.
