Local students win B of A money Bank of America has awarded scholarships to a number of area high school seniors as winners and finalists in its annual academic competition. Students were evaluated based on written statements and roundtable discussions by a judging panel composed of local civic and business leaders. Areas of competition included applied arts, fine arts, liberal arts and science and mathematics. Named as 2002 Bank of America Achievement Award finalists from the Conejo Valley were the following students: Thousand Oaks residents Justine T. Chiou and Annie Zhang of Thousand Oaks High School (TOHS) each won a $2,000 scholarship as first-place winners in the fine arts and liberal arts categories, respectively. Jason A. Kaminsky of Thousand Oaks, another TOHS student, received a $1,500 scholarship for second-place in science and math. Camille M. Chang of Newbury Park, a senior at La Reina High School, Thousand Oaks, won a $2,000 scholarship as first-place winner in science and math. Westlake Village resident Derek Chang of Agoura High School received a $1,000 scholarship for third-place in science and math. Gina M. Battaglia of Westlake Village, a senior at Westlake High School, won a $500 scholarship as a finalist in the applied arts category. |
