During a recent luncheon at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Frist Humanitarian Award Honorees for year 2001 were honored. Margarita Horowitz was named "Volunteer of the Year," while Deanna "Dee" Dowd was tapped as "Employee of the Year."

Horowitz has been a volunteer at the medical center for 13 years. Dowd runs the cafeteria and has worked for the hospital more than two decades.

"I feel so honored," Dowd said. "I really thought that this award was only for the medical staff."

Horowitz said she also felt honored.

"I do a lot of volunteer work," Horowitz said. "However, this is a very special day, and I feel very honored that they thought enough of my time to give me this award."

The Frist Humanitarian Award was created in 1971 to honor outstanding individuals for their humanitarian and volunteer activities. It is named in honor of Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr.
