Here’s a story we haven’t heard

––– or have we?

Once upon a time, a family of limited resources was growing in Southern California. Little money meant no bigger house and no new car, even though every year another baby came along. But every year, the father took all the children five and older to Disneyland.

The fourth eldest, Amy, had a fever when she was 5 and didn’t make the trip. One thing or another kept her from Disneyland for the next four years.

Finally, at age 10, Amy was in perfect health and nothing else would keep her from going. But her mother said, "Amy, your older brothers and sister are bigger now, and there are five younger children; there just isn’t room in the car for you."

Amy was crushed; it wasn’t her fault the kids got bigger and more kids came along. "Why me?"

This fable is being made into a movie. The house is portrayed by the 101 Corridor; the car by the 101 Freeway; Calabasas, Agoura, and Thousand Oaks are the older kids; the younger kids are Westlake, Oak Park, Amgen, Lang Ranch and Dos Vientos.

Amy is played by Ahmanson Ranch and the mean-spirited mother by Linda Parks.

Parks will step down as a city councilwoman in Thousand Oaks and take office as a Ventura County Supervisor in January, having won election on March 5. She’s been an outspoken opponent of new development, including Ahmanson.
