Disappointed in the outcome of Measure H Regarding Measure H, congratulations to the Do-It Center and the other sponsors of Measure H. At the expense of the betterment of our city, you managed to convince 2,371 voters of Agoura Hills that Measure H was all about the Home Depot. The Do-It Center will no longer have to worry about competition and the city planners will no longer have to worry about having their desks cluttered with quality development proposals for the eyesore that now exists just west of Kanan at Agoura Road. As disappointed as I am about the passage of Measure H, I’m just as disappointed about the voter turnout. What happened to all the patriotism and flag-waving from 9-11? Only 4,622 of the residents of Agoura Hills voted. Out of 12,280 registered voters, this represents a 37 percent turnout. The low voter turnout illustrates the inherent weakness of Measure H. With the passage of Measure H many planning decisions that were once the responsibility of a very capable, informed and receptive planning commission and city council are now in the hands of a minority of Agoura Hills residents. Mark Rackow Agoura Hills Actually, 37 percent turnout for a primary election was high (compared to most areas). |
