Conejo Valley Days rolls into T.O.

Conejo Valley Days "Red, White & Blue in 2002" events officially begin with the Conejo Valley Days (CVD) Kickoff Picnic and Classic Car Show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat., March 16 at the Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. Admission is free.

The day will feature food, entertainment, games, a Tiny Tots and Children’s Pageant plus a vintage and classic car show. The Conejo Valley Rotary Club is sponsoring the event for the 18th year and proceeds from the picnic support Rotary community services.

More than 100 classic automobiles in seven categories, from pre-1950 cars to specialty and street rod cars, will be on display at the picnic. Awards will be given in each category. The registration is $25. For entry and registration information, call Vern Miller at (805) 495-6458.

The Tiny Tots/Children’s Pageant will be on the main stage at 1 p.m. Boys and girls ages 2-8 are invited to wear a western outfit and participate. For more information on participation, please call Lussier Productions at (805) 496-4839.

The festivities will include the announcement of this year’s CVD grand marshal candidates. The CVD Great Rabbit Medallion Hunt will also begin at the picnic. A CVD medallion will be hidden somewhere in the Conejo Valley by the day of the picnic.

A "hunting license" (a gold badge) will be sold for $1 by grand marshal candidates at the picnic (and at all grand marshal activities) to those interested in participating, along with a list of medallion hunting rules. Proceeds will go to the candidates’ selected charities. The contest winner will receive $1,000 ($500 for a winner without the hunting license).

Also at the picnic will be the Elks Club barbecue wagon, pony rides and a petting zoo. For more information, please call (805) 371-8730.
