Measure H isn’t the solution Measure H isn’t the solution Remember the electricity shortage? Last summer, Californians were subjected to electrical shortages and inflated prices. Why? Electrical deregulation. That was a bad piece of legislation that promised lower prices for consumers. But it was poorly written, and it’s what allowed electrical suppliers to hold Californians hostage for outrageously high prices. Isn’t it funny how there was plenty of electricity as soon as prices had gone up? Measure H is a bad piece of legislation for Agoura Hills. The people promoting it are promising a thriving sales tax base and local businesses that support the schools. Sounds great? Read the measure yourself. It doesn’t do what they’ve been telling you it does any more than electrical deregulation saved all of us lots of money. Measure H does not put Home Depot or any other future project proposal to a vote. If it passes, it bans retail developments over 60,000 square feet from Agoura Hills forever! No matter what the development is, it will go elsewhere (like Westlake Village, Calabasas or Oak Park) and Agoura Hills will get the traffic and other impacts without any of the benefits. If Measure H passes, it will cost every resident of Agoura Hills because the sales tax revenue will not keep pace with the cost of services like law enforcement and street repairs. The choice will be either a reduction of services (and that will lower your property values) or a tax to pay for needed services. I don’t like either of those choices. Do you? Flex your voting power. Join me in voting no on Measure H on March 5. Fran Foster Agoura Hills |
