Join us in voting yes on ‘H’ Join us in voting yes on ‘H’ It would appear that we are just beginning to see the true colors of Home Depot as it attempts to confuse the voters of Agoura Hills about Measure H (the ballot initiative which will limit future retail business in the city to 60,000 square feet). Based on its first two ads in The Acorn and its first mailing it is clear that the Home Depot machine is in high gear. In case anyone has missed it, Home Depot calls their opposition group "Taxpayers Opposing Special Treatment." Yeah right! Our city council has long stated that it would take no position on the Home Depot development until such a time as an application has been presented. However, councilmembers have allowed their names to be used in Home Depot ads. Recently a Superior Court judge ruled the city council did not give an impartial analysis of Measure H to the voters. So much for no special treatment. Measure H seeks to limit retail stores to no more than 60,000 square feet. Statements by Home Depot claim that this measure would eliminate the mid-sized stores and would amount to hanging a "not welcome" sign at the entrance to Agoura Hills. Not true. The real truth is that Home Depot is one of only a very few retail stores that would be restricted under this initiative. Thousand Oaks didn’t want Home Depot so they moved that store to Newbury Park. Ventura also rejected Home Depot. Why would we want them in Agoura Hills? Vote yes on H and stop big-box stores in Agoura Hills. Robert G. Corenson Agoura Hills |
