Seminars, workshops to accompany Lent in Conejo Valley More than 30 sessions will be presented inexpensively to connect faith, life experiences at two local churches

In an innovative approach to the season of Lent, two Roman Catholic parishes in the Conejo Valley will be partners in presenting more than 30 seminars and workshops designed to connect faith and life experiences.

The Westlake Village parishes of St. Maximilian Kolbe and St. Jude will sponsor a new Catholic adult education program with 7:30 to 9 p.m. classes every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening through March 21 at both churches.

The Lenten series will feature various speakers with appropriate backgrounds on subjects ranging from business ethics to parenting issues, in addition to the sessions on moral issues, controversial church history and spirituality in the home.

Being promoted as St. Maximilian and St. Jude’s University, the adult education program was developed by the Rev. Dave Heney, associate pastor at both parishes, in cooperation with lay committees from both churches. Expected to be of particular interest will be a panel presentation on bio-ethics March 11 at St. Max Church featuring a physician, professor, lawyer and ethicist.

In all, the Lenten series will present four meetings on business ethics, three on marriage and family, three on Scriptures, two on moral issues, two on church history, two on spirituality, one on Sunday Mass, one on Mary and the saints, one on God and Hollywood and eight on Catholicism.

A charge will cover expenses and help present future adult education events. The fee is $5 per person or couple for each meeting, or $7 at the door, and $50 per person or couple for the whole series.

Church offices for registration are (St. Max) at 5801 Kanan Road and (St. Jude) 32032 Lindero Canyon Road.

For information on classes, please call (818) 991-3915 for St. Max and (818) 889-1279 for St. Jude.
