Equine artist among weekend attractions Fred Stone of Agoura Hills, one of the foremost equine artists in the world, created a poster, "Partners," to honor victims of the Oklahoma City bombing, depicting an exhausted firefighter with his search-and-rescue dog. Re-titled "A Grateful America Honors its Fallen Firefighters," the poster has been selected by L.A. County firefighter Tom Brady’s Sundance Foundation to raise funds for families of New York City firefighters who perished in the Sept. 11 tragedy. Sales of the poster and T-shirts bearing a likeness of Stone’s poster will benefit the victims through the Sundance Foundation. Stone will autograph the posters from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 23 at the Agoura Hills Library, 29901 Ladyface Ct., Agoura Hills (off Agoura Road, between Kanan and Reyes Adobe Roads). Members of the L.A. County firefighters will be in attendance. Signed posters will be available for the special purchase price of a $25 donation to the Sundance Foundation. Stone will be participating in a "Caravan of Brothers" poster-signing tour across America aboard a special fire engine, accompanied by firefighters volunteering their time. All donations from the poster sales on tour will be presented personally by L.A. County Deputy Fire Chief Darrell Higuchi to the NYC Fire Chief. Also on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Friends of Agoura Hills Library will celebrate the grand opening of "The Book Cellar," in the basement of the library. The book cellar will enable the Friends to raise funds year-round for programs for teens, children, seniors and families through the sale of books, CDs, DVDs, videotapes and audiotapes. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Handicapped access is available from the parking garage under the library/city hall complex. The selection at the Book Cellar will be similar to items found at the library’s semi-annual parking lot used book sales including many new and nearly-new hardcover and paperback books for all ages and interests. Prices range from 50 cents to a few dollars. |
