Local musicians join state honor band

The California Band Directors Association has announced that trumpet players Michael Scanza of Westlake High School and Jason Paul of Thousand Oaks High School have been selected through auditions to become participants in the 2002 California All-State Honor Bands.

The All-State Bands are held in conjunction with the California Band Directors Association annual convention in Fresno from Feb. 14 through 17.

Scanza and Paul were among about 900 students from high schools throughout the state who auditioned for the All-State Bands. The best 300 students were selected.

Both students are members of the marching band, wind ensemble and jazz band under the direction of Marty Mantone of Thousand Oaks High School and Kyle Luck of Westlake High School, respectively.
