Let’s lobby our new congressman about the 101-Kanan mess

Let’s lobby our new congressman about the 101-Kanan mess

Fixing the 101-Kanan interchange should be a top priority for the residents of the entire region. The 101-Kanan interchange not only affects Agoura Hills, but also the entire Las Virgenes and Conejo Valley area. The interchange improvement plan could end up costing anywhere from $20-$27 million, with city of Agoura Hills footing most of the bill.

In 1999 the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) agreed to partially fund the project and allocated $10 million toward the estimated total cost. The city of Agoura Hills has to come up with the rest of the money, which could be upwards of $17 million.

Lobbying the federal government for assistance in obtaining additional funding is critical to ensure the interchange is fixed as soon as possible.

In the next couple of weeks, the Conejo Las Virgenes Citizens Alliance (CLVCA) will be circulating a postcard that residents can send to U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Los Angeles).

We will also be traveling to Washington, D.C., to lobby Congressman Waxman’s office for the additional federal funds to pay for the 101-Kanan interchange improvement plan.

I encourage the residents of Agoura Hills and the surrounding community to contact our future congressman, and let him know about one of the biggest issues in the area. The more people that get involved and contact Congressman Waxman, the better chance we have of getting the necessary appropriations from the U. S. Congress. An active citizenry is the backbone of an effective democracy.

Robyn Ann Hawley,

Vice president, CLVCA

Agoura Hills
