Doesn’t blame residents for fighting new homes

After reading the article in the Jan. 24 issue of The Acorn, we feel obligated to relate our experience with Vintage Homes. Vintage is developing homes in the Sycamore Canyon area of Westlake Village, which happens to abut our home in the Three Springs development.

In August of 1999 we were advised by a notice posted on our garage door that Vintage would commence blasting in Sycamore Canyon as part of developing their property. This blasting was to occur once a week for approximately three months. They performed blasts twice a week over a longer period of time.

We were at that time assured by a representative of Vintage that they would be monitoring our homes to make sure that no damage would occur and that if damage did occur they would be responsible for restoring our homes to the pre-blast condition.

Unfortunately we (and at least one other homeowner that we know of and probably several others) sustained several thousands of dollars damage to both the interiors and exteriors of our homes and have been unable in over a year to get Vintage Homes to acknowledge the extent of damage caused by their blasting and to pay the estimates we have for repairing the damage.

We have been forced to go to the expense of obtaining reports confirming the damage to our home and hiring legal assistance to resolve this matter.

We can only hope that the Cornell Preservation Organization (CPO) is successful in preventing Vintage from developing the Hidden Park project as they have proved themselves to be irresponsible and unresponsive developers.
