Local youth called to the Torah

Scott Phillip Beth, son of Patty and Joel Beth of Agoura Hills, became a Bar Mitzvah on Jan. 5 at Temple Adat Elohim, the Reform Congregation of the Conejo Valley at 2420 E. Hillcrest Dr., Thousand Oaks. Rabbi Alan Greenbaum officiated.

Scott is a seventh grade honor roll student at Lindero Canyon Middle School in Agoura Hills Patrick Vandenberg, son of Bonnie and Harry Vandenberg of Thousand Oaks, became a Bar Mitzvah on Jan. 5 at the temple, with Rabbi Greenbaum officiating.

Patrick attends seventh grade at Los Cerritos Middle School. Patrick has embraced his Jewish education and heritage from the start of Shabbat in the home and mitzvoth in the community. His family from the U.S. and the Netherlands were present for the event.

Carolyn Renee Frieband, daughter of Patricia and David Frieband of Oak Park, became a Bat Mitzvah on Jan. 12 at the temple, with Rabbi Rebecca Dubowe officiating.

Carolyn is a seventh grade honor student at Medea Creek Middle School.

Annika Berman, daughter of Cary and Lisa Berman of Thousand Oaks, became a Bat Mitzvah on Jan. 12, with Rabbi Dubowe officiating.

Annika is a seventh grader at Colina Middle School. For her mitzvah project, Annika is a volunteer at Ride On, where she assists individuals with disabilities in horseback riding.

Michael Bluestein, son of Julie and Bruce Bluestein of Agoura Hills, became a Bar Mitzvah on Jan. 19. Rabbi Greenbaum officiated.

Michael is in the seventh grade at Lindero Canyon Middle School where he’s an honors student whose favorite subject is science.
