Daffodil Days to help fight cancer Through Feb. 21, the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days campaign will raise funds for cancer research, education and patient services through the sale of daffodil bouquets of all shapes and sizes. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), the first flower of spring represents the hope brought to millions of cancer patients and survivors in the U.S. through advances in cancer detection and treatment made possible by the ACS research program. Proceeds from the campaign support critical research. Advance orders of daffodils by the bunch and arrangement will be accepted through Feb. 21, with delivery the week of March 18. Individuals may order blooms for friends, family and co-workers to support the fight against cancer. Corporations may purchase corporate arrangements for clients or anonymously sponsor "Gift of Hope" bouquets to be delivered to cancer patients at hospitals and treatment centers. Daffodils are available through local offices of the ACS throughout California. Donations range from $10 for a bunch of 10 blooms to $110 for a lavish corporate arrangement. To place an order, please call (800) ACS-2345 or visit their Web site at www.cancer.org/ca. In addition, volunteers are needed to assist with various activities relating to the Daffodil Days campaign, including: help plan flower delivery routes; arrange bouquets and baskets of flowers; and assist with flower deliveries on March 18 to 19. For more details on volunteering, please call the San Fernando Valley office of the ACS at (818) 905-7766. |
