L.A. Music Center announces award nominees
The Music Center of Los Angeles County has announced its BRAVO Award nominees honoring exemplary arts educators. Fifty-seven teachers and 11 schools have been nominated.
Lindero Canyon Middle School, Agoura Hills, within the Las Virgenes Unified School District, is a BRAVO Award-nominated school for Los Angeles County.
Five teachers from the Conejo Valley Unified School District have received award nominations: Ann Oppenheim (third grade) of Ladera Elementary School, Thousand Oaks, and Jennifer Fry (fifth grade) of Meadows Elementary School, Thousand Oaks, in the generalist category; Patti Foy (music) of Park Oaks Elementary School, Thousand Oaks, Michael Reisig (music) of Thousand Oaks High School, and Kristi Colell (art) of Newbury Park High School, Newbury Park, in the specialist category.
Three BRAVO Awards are presented: one to a school, one to a teacher working in an arts field and one to a general classroom teacher. The Music Center Education Division established the awards in 1982 to recognize schools and teachers that provide the best in arts education for their students. The BRAVO Award is the only arts award in California that recognizes educators and schools for excellence in all of the arts disciplines.
The winning school receives a cash award of $5,000 and the arts specialist and generalist awards are $2,000 each. The awards will be presented at a gala dinner on Feb. 25 at the Regal Biltmore Hotel.
