How could vandals destroy posters of U.S. flags? I am writing to let the person or persons who have taken down the patriotic posters I put up on the chain-link fence near Indian Hills School know how very upset and disheartened I feel. I put those up as my way of showing support and thanks to our brave firefighters, police and emergency workers. The second time they were taken down I put them back up and added a beautiful flag poster with the Pledge of Allegiance inscribed across it. I thought for sure they would not take the flag down. Not only did they take it down, they ripped it in half. Now I really felt let down. I have repaired it, and tonight I’m putting all three posters back up. The support for one nation’s loss Sept. 11 has been a source of comfort, and I wanted to do something good. I did not know I would be offending anyone. It made me feel proud and happy to put my signs up just as I, too, was comforted the day after Sept. 11 when I saw the American flag over the freeway overpasses. Especially now it’s essential to show as much love, support and unity for all our fellow Americans. Thank you. R. A. Bell Calabasas |
