Register soon for Washington, D.C. trip

Registration is currently open for area middle and high school students (grades 8 and above) to participate in a spring vacation tour of the nation’s capital and Colonial Williamsburg. Trip highlights also include a visit to the Smithsonian Institute and the CNN Newseum, the battlefield at Gettysburg and a tour of Ford’s Theater.

The trip is a non-school activity and school sites have no information or materials. The cost to participate is $1,133 and includes airfare, lodging, meals, evening activities, sightseeing and tips. Trip organizers are Donald Zimring, a Las Virgenes Unified School District administrator, and Tom Johnsen, a teacher at Calabasas High School. Pre-trip classes are conducted to help students better appreciate what they will see and experience.

Other area educators involved in the trip include Phalba Thomas, Bonnie Eichen, Ron Fornelli, Chris Sales, Marilyn Fine, Jim Johnson and Ray Ballard.

The following informational meetings have been scheduled to provide an overview of the trip and answer questions parents may have. All meetings commence at 7:30 p.m.

Mon., Oct. 22: Newbury Park High School, room D27

Thurs., Nov. 1: Willow Elementary School multipurpose room, Agoura Hills

Mon., Nov. 5: Bay Laurel Elementary multipurpose room, Calabasas

Wed., Nov. 7: Colina Middle School auditorium, Thousand Oaks

Thurs., Nov. 14: Oak Park High School presentation room, Oak Park.
