NIMBY and proud of it
As an 11-year resident of Oak Park, I feel it is my responsibility to speak out against the impact that 140,000 sq. ft. of Home Depot will have on my beloved community.

Adamantly opposed to the Home Depot
As an Agoura Hills resident, I am adamantly opposed to the proposed Home Depot project. Not only because of the traffic nightmare that would ensue from such a project, but also because a Home Depot type of establishment will certainly turn our quaint community into another noisy, traffic-laden town similar to the one I escaped from in the San Fernando Valley.

Please sign the petitions calling for a vote on ‘big box’ stores
I cannot understand how anyone who lives in this beautiful area could possibly feel that here would be a benefit to having a monstrous commercial center such as the proposed Home Depot project in our neighborhood.

A Home Depot might generate less tax revenue
I support the proposed ballot initiative requiring a vote of the citizens of Agoura Hills for the approval of any "big box" store constructed within city limits. A "big box" store would have a huge impact on our small city, and I believe that its approval should be decided by the citizens of Agoura Hills in a direct vote.

Home Depot and Kanan Road are incompatible
My eyes must be deceiving me, or could it be that The Acorn has made a typographical error? The Agoura Hills City Council and their public works director have published the Kanan/101 interchange redevelopment plan and have proudly stated that our current grade "F" interchange would be elevated to a "D" or "C"? Councilmembers, which school did you attend that finds these grades acceptable? Up until now, I have reserved my opinion on the Home Depot issue because I wanted more information on traffic mitigation. Given that this redevelopment appears to be a Band-Aid on a gaping artery, I must strongly protest the construction of a regional retail store in this area.

Wants quiet beauty, not ‘big boxes’
There is a quiet beauty to Agoura Hills that will be lost if the "Big Box" stores like Home Depot are allowed to take over our suburban streets and rolling hills.

Calabasas was going to support Pumpkin Festival
The Aug. 16 letter from Alan Unger, heaping shame on the Calabasas City Council for not supporting the annual Pumpkin Festival, was based on a falsehood. Apart from Dennis Washburn, who recused himself due to a financial conflict of interest, the city council voted unanimously to make our usual $25,000 contribution this year.

Are success and possessions overrated?
Why is it that we grow old too soon and wise too late? "How did we get here so quickly?" I ask myself and, "Are these 30-something kids really ours?"

Labor Day is another reason to fly Old Glory
Before all of the flower, bunny, birthday and holiday flags become a home decorating fashion item with so many homeowners, there was just the Stars and Stripes to hang out on special days.
