Student joins UCLA program

Katharine Chen, 17, a junior at Oak Park High School, has been selected to participate in an Economics for Leaders program being conducted at UCLA through Aug. 19.

Chen is one of 30 students from around the country accepted into the program, sponsored by the Foundation for Teaching Economics, a Davis, Calif.-based nonprofit foundation.

All of the students selected have demonstrated leadership potential.

The weeklong course combines leadership training and economics. During the week, students learn an economic way of thinking about human behavior and experience the interaction of different leadership styles within a group.

They’re provided the opportunity to develop a clearer insight into how the world works, knowledge that is especially helpful to those aspiring to leadership positions, according to program coordinators.
