Challenger for city council says big-box retailers are the real carpetbaggers Challenger for city council says big-box retailers are the real carpetbaggers As Agoura Hills is the hub for freeway access, what we do affects everyone. Not only Agoura Hills, but everyone around us—Oak Park, Malibou Lake/Canyons, Westlake Village and even Malibu. Citizens for Responsible Growth (CRG) was founded to protect everyone, both in and around Agoura Hills, from carpetbaggers. I use this term because everyone used the word in reference to a publicist that our group uses to help liaison with outside citizens, groups and critics. It’s unfortunate that more residents of Agoura Hills have not shown the dedication to preserving Agoura Hills as much as Mr. Abrams has. But if there is a carpetbagger(s) out there, it’s the big-box retailers. They have come to Agoura Hills in a whirlwind of spending and false promises, without consideration of traffic gridlock implications, obviously taking advantage of a shortsighted, thus inept, council that has permitted this debacle to fester. If we should fear someone, look at these big-box retailers. What they’re offering may appear to be a shiny apple, but if we bite, we die. The CRG has dramatically increased the awareness of citizens, but it is far from over. When the petition to limit the size of retail buildings in Agoura Hills has enough signatures to warrant a special election, everyone must vote to be heard. A mandate by special election is the only way we can prevent a big-box catastrophe from permanently ruining our city, as our council refuses to take this stance on their own. Lastly, how many of you out here have heard that the Kanan interchange will be fixed? How many of you know it does not include a widening of the bridge? How many of you have seen the plan, which includes widening Canwood to six lanes—the equivalent of one and a half sides of the 101 freeway? Please—stay involved and informed. And please sign the petition so you have the opportunity to vote on the future of your city. Dan Crisafulli Agoura Hills Crisafulli will be challenging for a seat on the Agoura Hills City Council in the Nov. 6 election. |
