LISA ADAMS/ The AcornWORKING TO KEEP THEIR SCHOOL SAFE - Agoura High School Student Councilmembers Julie Anderson, 16, left; Devon Jacobs-Quinn, 16; Tara Williams, 14; and Corey Wish, 17, spend their Sunday afternoon decorating a sign in front of the campus in recognition of the national program -- Red Ribbon Week, emphasizing that young people should avoid drugs and alcohol.
Agoura High School students hope to educate fellow students about the dangers of drug use through the annual Red Ribbon Week event which continues at the school through tomorrow, Fri., Oct. 27.
Red Ribbon Week will be used to promote drug awareness and public safety.
The school will be decorated with red ribbons, bracelets and related items will be handed out. Morning announcements will also include drug and health-related facts to make students more aware of the dangers of drug use. The Las Virgenes Optimists have donated the money for lollipops, which will be handed out to the students to promote drug-free awareness. A drug-free pledge banner will be available on campus for students to sign.
Westlake High School (WHS) is also observing Red Ribbon Week, like most local schools.
WHS will host internationally-known drug and alcohol prevention speaker Milton Creagh, who’ll address two school assemblies.
In addition, a car that had been involved in a drug and/or alcohol-related accident will be displayed in the quad.
Each day will feature a different scenario related to the accident with the full story posted by week’s end.
