Get out of the U.N. Get out of the U.N. The world seems to be waking up to the U.N.’s increasing grab for power over all nations. In August of this year, the Australian government responded sharply to U.N. criticism of its treatment of its own Aborigine minority. Foreign minister Alexander Downer told the world body’s leaders that Australia will no longer allow U.N. committees to visit his nation unless there is a "compelling reason." While announcing the plan to restrict visits by U.N. human rights inspectors, the Australian government also urged a complete overhaul of the U.N.’s committee system. Attorney General Daryl Williams accused U.N. panels of concentrating on relatively minor issues in countries such as his while ignoring far more serious abuses in totalitarian nations. Three cheers for Australia! But reforming or tempering the U.N. is not what’s needed. Australia and other nations should withdraw from the world body before it destroys all freedoms.
