Likes Rufener

It seems to be getting rote in politics that change is good. Out with the old and in with the new. I’ve been guilty of this mentality myself.

On Monday night I had the opportunity to have a long talk with Ken Rufener, our incumbent director running for re-election to the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District Board. In brief, I changed my mind — I want Ken to be there for the next four years.

Ken Rufener not only has the experience but more importantly, a clear plan of where he wants the district to be in the future and the wherewithal to help make it happen.

We reviewed many different aspects of the district’s operation from potential lawsuits to planning for the slow but steady growth. I asked for his response to reports that we are paying both too much for our water and too much for the administrators.

I found out quite the contrary: for our size district and number of customers, our rates are right in the middle and the per diem given to the directors is regulated. By private industry standards, it is on the low side.

I dug deeper. We covered more ground: from the composting facility that is not over capacity to their lovely office which was paid for by developers’ fees and not the $60 million raised for improving the water plant.

One by one Ken unhesitatingly answered my questions. I was impressed by both his depth of knowledge and the ability to clearly communicate it.

Change is often good but not in this case. Join me in voting for experience and vision.

Vote for Ken Rufener.
