Calabasas couple volunteers in Ecuador

Last July, Herb and Phyllis Goldberg of Calabasas were part of an 18-member Global Volunteers team of North Americans who worked on medical, child care and construction projects at Camp Hope, a facility for children with mental and physical disabilities in Quito, Ecuador.

Herb Goldberg, a retired plastic surgeon, examined and treated patients with scars or congenital deformities, while Phyllis Goldberg, a psychologist, consulted with her Ecuadorian counterparts about group therapy planning and sheltered workshops. She also evaluated several young Camp Hope clients.

The Goldbergs had previously participated in international volunteer service in Africa and Vietnam.
