Calabasas to dedicate skate park Are you looking for a fun, legal place to ride your skateboard?

The city of Calabasas took over operation of Gates Canyon Park from Los Angeles County last month and will officially dedicate the park in conjunction with the dedication of the city’s new Skate Park Program at 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 28. The event will include registration for the Skate Park Program, a day of skateboarding and free barbecue.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky will be on hand along with Calabasas City Councilmembers, Calabasas Parks and Recreation commissioners and other city dignitaries to dedicate Gates Canyon Park and the new Skate Program.

The new skate park will be open 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Skaters will be required to fill out registration forms and pay $2 for daily use or $20 for a monthly pass to use the park. City Parks and Recreation employees will staff the park and make sure that skaters are properly registered and wearing the necessary safety gear, including helmets and knee pads.
