Student tour registration to begin

Registration has begun for the annual spring vacation student tour to Colonial Williamsburg and Washington, D.C.

This non-school activity sponsored by local teachers is open to area middle and high school students in grades eight and above.

The following informational meetings will provide an overview of the trip and answer questions parents may have.

All meetings begin 7:30 p.m.

Wed., Oct. 11: Lupin Elementary School, Calabasas.

Thurs., Oct. 12: Willow Elementary School, Agoura Hills.

Thurs., Oct. 19: Oak Park High presentation room, Oak Park.

Wed., Oct. 25: Newbury Park High room D27, Newbury Park.

Thurs., Nov. 9: Colina Middle School auditorium, Thousand Oaks.

Trip organizers are Tom Johnsen, a teacher at Calabasas High School and Don Zimring, a Las Virgenes Unified School District administrator. The all-inclusive cost is $1,090.

Students will visit Colonial Williamsburg, a town that exists much as it did in 1775.

They’ll also visit sights in Washington, D.C. including the Capitol, the Holocaust Museum, the monuments as well as attend a performance at Kennedy Center. The tour will also encompass visits to the battlefield at Gettysburg and Ford’s Theater.
