Keep your baby safe from danger Babies are helpless creatures, entirely dependent on their parents and caregivers for love and safety. Hidden dangers lurk everywhere, making it necessary to closely monitor an infant’s activities. Moms especially need to be on the lookout for potential hazards to their newborn. In partnership with the American Red Cross, Enfamil has developed a handy set of basic first-aid tips for infants. These tips can help parents stay on top of possible harm to their baby and to react quickly with lifesaving techniques should they be necessary. Packaged as a set of laminated tags, the tips have long been included in the free diaper bags Enfamil gives mothers when they leave the hospital. Now, for a limited time, they’re being offered free to the public. The safety tags, which include emergency measures to be taken in case of choking, poisoning or injury, have proved to be lifesavers for a number of families. For example, the mother of a baby boy told how the information on the tags helped her think and act quickly when the infant started choking in his crib. "I panicked at first, but then pulled myself together and remembered what I had read on the safety tag," the Oakland mother said. "I turned him over and started patting his back and he began breathing again." And a Utah mother whose baby girl suddenly began choking used the tags to save her infant’s life. "They were in the Enfamil diaper bag," she said. "I simply followed the instructions and the food popped out." Vicki Lansky, author of "Baby Proofing Basics," said keeping safety information close at hand is crucial. She recommends keeping a set of the Enfamil safety tags where they can be seen and reached quickly in an emergency.
