Mutz named baseball coach at OCHS Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village announced the hiring of Frank Mutz as its inaugural boy’s baseball coach. Mutz has coached baseball around the world, including stints with the Cologne Cardinals in Cologne, Germany, the Kenai Peninsula Oilers in the prestigious Alaska Summer League, the Cleveland Indians minor league teams and locally at Masters College and Granada Hills High School. Mutz is also a professional sports agent who represents several major leaguers and high school players in the 2000 draft. After graduating from college, Mutz was drafted and played professional baseball for the California Angels for three-and-a-half years. He reached the big leagues with the Oakland Athletics in the 1995 strike season. Mutz scouted Southern California baseball players for the Cleveland Indians, Arizona Diamondbacks and the Montreal Expos for most of the past decade. A graduate of Granada Hills High School, Mutz also owned and operated the Kern County Baseball School in Bakersfield. "I’m excited about the opportunity to help build the school and our baseball program from scratch. I think OCHS presents a great environment for kids to be students and athletes," Mutz said. "Not only does he have experience at the professional level, but he will bring a real sense of expertise, enthusiasm, integrity, and a desire to be a positive influence in the lives of our students," said Jan Hethcock, OCHS athletic director. OCHS is a new $40 million, 18-acre campus in Westlake Village that will enroll its first class of ninth and tenth graders in Sept., 2000. OCHS has been accepted to CIF’s Southern section and will play an independent schedule its first season. |
