Cancer programs continue in July at Wellness Community The Wellness Community, Valley/Ventura offers ongoing programs and support groups for people with cancer and their families and/or caregivers. Offered at no cost, the programs aim to educate, inform, comfort and encourage cancer patients in their fight for recovery. For detailed information on any of these free programs that offer psychological, social and emotional support, please call the Wellness Community at (805) 379-4777. All programs are at the Wellness Community, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village. Orientation Meetings: 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays; 10 a.m.-noon Fridays. Family and Friends Groups: 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays. Family Transition Group: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays. Teen Rap Group: 4-6 p.m. Tues., July 18. This is an after-school support group for teenagers who have a parent or grandparent with cancer. Brain Tumor Networking Group: 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight Thurs., July 6. The Wellness Connection: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tues., July 11 and 25. Prostate Cancer Networking Group: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sat., July 15. Leukemia Society of America Support Group: 6:30-8 p.m. Thurs., July 20 Breast Cancer Networking Group: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tues., July 18 Relaxation/Visualization: 1-2 p.m. Fridays. A new book and discussion club where cancer patients and their families will share and discuss chapters from some of the books they’ve found to be inspirational and helpful in the midst of their fight for recovery from illness. Led by Marsha Youman, MS. Creative Writing Class: 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Sat., July 22. Fiction writer/poet Patricia Beven will conduct an informal summer workshop encouraging cancer patients and their families to find their own voice by using word play, dreams and childhood memories. |
