     CHUCK ROGERS/The Acorn MARATHON FUNDRAISER-Cancer survivors share their feelings during the American Cancer Society's first Calabasas "Relay For Life.'' Survivors included from left to right: Kirk Wahrman, Cindy Ladin, Carol Weiss, Diana Moritz and Larry Painter.The 24-hour fundraiser began at noon on a recent Saturday on the track and field of Calabasas High School. Proceeds from the event will benefit cancer research. Cancer survivors from throughout the Las Virgenes and San Fernando-Conejo valley areas led participating teams in a first ceremonial lap around the field.

Hyatt hosts another blood drive
     Lisa Adams/The Acorn giving the gift of life - Westlake Hyatt Hotel general manager David Lewin donates blood with the help of Carolyn Jones, LVN, a member of the American Red Cross, during the second annual "Hyatt's World's Largest Blood Drive." Staff members and hotel guests had the opportunity to donate blood recently. More than half of the Hyatt chain of hotels from the United States, Canada and the Caribbean participated. Blood is in short supply right now, the Red Cross says.
